Medway Council have decided to install solar panels on Gun Wharf building which is believed to be the largest installation on a listed building in the UK.
There will be 400 panels that have the capacity of 300W each (120kW) will be installed upon the offices.
Medway council could save around £23,000 a year in energy costs. They also look to expand their savings by switching to LED lighting rather than traditional lighting options at their building.
Councillor Adrian Gulvin commented: “This measure is good for the environment because it reduces the council’s carbon footprint but also helps us make savings.
“The panels were specifically chosen to complement the existing roof structure and will be barely visible from the road.”
The panels will also reduce the council’s CO2 emissions by 60 tonnes a year.
